Alaska Flag History

Alaska adopted its state flag in 1927. Benny Benson, a 13 year old student, chose the North Star and the Big Dipper when he designed Alaska's state flag in a territorial school contest. The Alaska state flag has a blue background to represent the sky and the Forget Me Not Flower. On the background were eight gold stars to represent the Big Dipper and the North Star.
